Pool Supervisor

MISSION STATEMENT
Camp Hobé is a special summer camp experience designed expressly for children currently undergoing treatment for cancer as well as their siblings. Our goal is to create an atmosphere that enhances self-esteem, fosters independence and friendships, and creates a feeling of belonging.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum age of 21 years preferred
  • A minimum of 6 weeks of prior leadership experience
  • Ability to meet the public
  • Desire & skills needed to bring people into a functioning unit
  • Ability to supervise staff & campers
  • Open and honest in relationships; willing to learn from experience
  • Current CPR and FIRST AID preferred
  • Current or expired WSI or American Red Cross lifesaving certification preferred

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee pool maintenance during the camp session
  • Oversee pool activities
  • Assist designated lifeguards with training staff and campers in pool safety
  • Motivate lifeguard staff to work as a group
  • Supervise lifeguard staff and report any problems to the Camp Director

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Choose and train counselors & counselors-in-training to act as 'lookers' at the pool. 'Lookers' will be required to demonstrate a non-swimming rescue to the Pool Supervisor's satisfaction prior to starting the camp session
  • Orient campers and staff to the Camp Hobé pool rules, before they are allowed to swim
  • Interview campers and their parents about swimming abilities and experience during camper check-in. Document and review interview results, prior to the first scheduled swimming session
  • Ensure that all policies and procedures are followed when campers or staff members are swimming

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Be able to communicate in a professional manner with lifeguards & staff
  • Be able to understand & implement requirements of ACA standards
  • Be able to communicate instructions to campers and other staff
  • Be able to observe & assess camper behavior & enforce appropriate regulations
  • Possess strength & endurance required to maintain supervision of campers & staff
  • Identify and respond to hazards, and have the abilities to assist in emergency situations
  • Be able to communicate by phone, & operate a vehicle in emergency situations
