MISSION STATEMENT
Camp Hobé is a special summer camp experience designed expressly for children currently undergoing treatment for cancer as well as their siblings. Our goal is to create an atmosphere that enhances self-esteem, fosters independence and friendships, and creates a feeling of belonging.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum age of 21 years old preferred
Previous camp or leadership experience
Working knowledge of running a kitchen for large groups
Experience in food planning and preparation for large groups
Self-motivated, good character, adaptability, enthusiasm, and sense of humor; patience and self-control
Open and honest in relationships; willing to learn from experience
Dietitian or nutritionist preferred
Food handler permit or ServeSafe certification preferred
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Work with Camp Hobé Kitchen Supervisor to plan menu for camp session(s)
Motivate kitchen staff to work together as a group
Give direction in carrying out policies and operation of camp kitchen
Supervise kitchen staff, counselors, and campers
Coordinate with activity leaders to prevent overlapping or conflicts
Encourage an atmosphere of respect, acceptance, and enthusiasm
Follow all camp policies
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Coordinate with Kitchen Supervisor to plan menus and order supplies as needed
Oversee unloading and storage of food supplies
Oversee preparation of meals
Instruct kitchen staff in safety, appliance use, refrigeration, dishwashing, and other procedures
Utilize safe storage measures for foods
Ensure all meals are prepared according to camp schedule
Check each storage area (pantry, refrigerator, etc.) for proper storage temperatures and conditions
Prepare a report on exact amounts of supplies uses
Attend and assist with pre-camp training
Complete inventory of kitchen at end of camp session
Attend daily staff meetings or send a representative from the kitchen staff
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Understand and implement requirements of ACA accreditation standards
Communicate instructions to campers and other staff
Observe and assess camper and staff behavior, and enforce appropriate regulations
Possess strength and endurance required to maintain supervision of kitchen staff
Identify and respond to hazards and assist in emergency situations
Communicate by phone and operate a vehicle in emergency situations
